 I & 2 PETER – LESSON 1


I. THE GREAT SALVATION (1:1-12)

A. A salvation for the elect (1:1-2)

1. Sojourners dispersed in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia

2. According to:

a. God’s foreknowledge

b. In connection with the sanctification of the Spirit

c. Unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Christ

B. A Salvation worthy of thanksgiving (1:3-5)

1. For God’s mercy – begotten again

2. For Christ’s resurrection – a living hope: indestructible inheritance in heaven

3. For God’s Power – guarded through faith

C. A Salvation for which to suffer (1:6-9)

1. Rejoicing though faith tested by trials – praise, glory and honor awaiting at the revelation of Jesus Christ

D. A Salvation of interest to prophets and angels (1:10-12)

1. Prophets prophesied by Spirit of Christ’s sufferings and glories – searched diligently.

2. Revealed now by those who preach the Gospel

3. Angels desire to look intently into this salvation

1. Does Peter addressing those “sojourners of the dispersion” imply that his readers were Jews?
