ISAIAH – LESSON FIVE


I. THE SIGN OF “IMMANUEL” IN THE MIDST OF ASSYRIAN OPPRESSIONS (Chapters 7-12).

A. Divine Sign of Virgin’s Son (Chapter 7).

1. Promise of deliverance from Syria and Israel (7:1-16, cf. 2 Kings 15:37-16:20; 2 Chron. 28:1-27).

2. Threatening of worse evils to be brought upon Judah by the Assyrians in whom they trusted (7:17-25).

B. Prediction of the overthrow of Syria and Israel renewed in connection with symbolical name and two witnesses

(8:1-4).

C. Judgment of God upon Syria and Israel will also threaten Judah – deliverance due to Immanuel (8:5-10).

D. Exhortation for the faithful to not join in the fears of the people – fear Jehovah (8:11-23).

E. A great light shall shine out of the darkness in Israel – everlasting government put on shoulders of the Son (9:1-7).

F. Jehovah’s outstretched hand in judgment continues (9:8-10:4).

G. Assyria, God’s instrument of wrath upon his people will also face the wrath of God (10:5-19).

H. A remnant shall escape God’s wrath – renewed exhortation to not fear Assyria (10:20-34).

I. Deliverance, Restoration and Peace ahead for the people of God in the anointed one (11:1-16).

J. Psalm of praise for God’s compassion and his confident inspiring strength – exhortation to make his ways known                   recognizing His great presence (12:1-6).
