I. KNOWING THE CHARACTER OF THE CHILDREN OF GOD (2:29-3:12)

A. He who practices righteousness is begotten of the righteous God (2:29).

B. He who keeps himself pure is a child of the pure God (3:1-3).

C. He who does not habitually practice sin abides in God (3:4-6).

D. Identifications from the true standard (3:7-9)

1. He is righteous who habitually practices righteousness.

2. He is of the Devil who habitually practices sin.

3. He is begotten of God who does not habitually practice sin but allows God’s seed to abide in control of his life.

E. He is not of God who does not love his brother (3:10-12)
