I JOHN – LESSON 8

I. KNOWING THE VICTORIOUS FAITH (5:1-12)

A. Believing that Jesus is the Christ – Overcoming the world (v. 1-4)

1. Begotten of God

2. Loves him that is begotten of God

3. Expresses love by obeying God’s commandments.

B. Believing that Jesus is the Son of God (v.5-6)

1. The Son came by both the water and the blood.

a. Water – baptism initiating Jesus’ earthly ministry.

b. Blood – the death of the Son of God

C. Having the spirit of truth is key is overcoming the world (v. 7-12).

1. Spirit – water – blood agree with the Father in identifying Jesus as the Son of God.

2. The Witness is in the one who believes on the Son of God.

3. The message of the witness: Eternal life is in the Son of God.

4. The blessing of fellowship with the Son: Eternal life.
