I. KNOWING ETERNAL LIFE (5:13-
A. The purpose for writing: “that ye may know that ye have eternal life” (v. 13).
1. Having life is conditional: “Believe on the name of the Son of God.”
B. Boldness in prayer for life of your brother (v. 14-
1. We have our petition when we pray according to God’s will (v. 14-
2. We can ask for life for brother who sins a sin not unto death (v. 16).

b. All unrighteousness is sin – and there is a sin not unto death (v. 17)
c. The truly begotten do not continue the habitual practice of their old sinful ways – keep out of control of the evil one (v. 18-
C. Knowing the true God through His Son, Jesus Christ (v. 20-
1. Therefore: “guard yourselves from idols.”
