I THESSALONIANS – LESSON 1


I. PAUL GIVES GOD THANKS FOR THE THESSALONIANS (1:1-10).

A. Paul gives greeting: (1:1)

1. along with Silvanus (Silas) and Timothy.

2. unto the local church – in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. Grace and peace desired for the Thessalonians.

B. Paul gives thanks for the Thessalonians: (1:2-3)

           1. Always

           2. in prayer

a. remembering their work of faith

b. remembering their labor of love

c. remembering their patience (stedfastness) of hope

C. Paul gives thanks for what he knows about the Thessalonians (1:4-10)

          1. Their election known: (v. 4-6)

a. the manner in which the Gospel came to them

b. the manner in which they received the Gospel

2. Their example known (v. 7-10).

            a. to all who believe in Macedonia and Achaia

            b. by sounding forth the word of the Lord in every place

            c. all could report of:

(1). the manner by which Paul and others came

(2). The turning from idols to serve the living and true God
