2 JOHN – LESSON 10

I. REJOICING – ADMONITIONS - WARNINGS (2 John 1-13)

A. Salutation of sincere love (v. 1-3).

1. Addresses the “elect lady and her children.”

2. Sincere love from lovers of truth

3. Truth, grace, mercy and peace abides as gifts from God the Father and Jesus.

B. Rejoicing because John finds children of the “elect lady” “walking in truth”     (v. 4).

C. Admonition to continue to love one another and walk after God’s commandments (v. 5-6).


D. Warning of many deceivers: those who do not confess that Jesus Christ comes in the flesh – the antichrist (v. 7-11).

1.     Demands self-inspection (v. 8).

2.     Understand that progressing beyond the teaching of Christ, we cease to

         have fellowship with God (v. 9).

a. Abiding in the teaching, we have fellowship with both the Father and the  Son.

3.      Must not give support or encouragement to false teacher (v. 10-11).

                                 a.  Do not receive into house.

                                 b. Do not give greeting – “good speed” or “God speed.”

                                 c.  If we do, we are partakers or sharers in his evil works.

 

E. The desire to say many things in person (v. 12-13).

1.      Lady’s nephews and /or nieces send greeting to aunt.
