EZEKIEL: LESSON SEVEN

WATCHMAN’S RESPONSIBILITY – GOVERNMENT OF THE FUTURE – EDOM


Time: 585  B.C. (Chapters 33-35)

 I. EZEKIEL , GOD’S WATCHMAN STILL HAS WARNING WORK TO DO    (Chapters 33:1-33)

A. Must warn wicked or be responsible along with them in their death (v. 1-20).

B. One escapes from Jerusalem to bring word: “the city is smitten” (v. 21-22).

C. People are wrong in thinking that the land would now be theirs – they are still guilty of violence (v. 23-29; Jeremiah 40-41).  

 D. Exiles are attracted to Ezekiel, but not to obey (v. 30-33)

      1. When justice prevails, they will know that a prophet is among them.

II. CONDEMNATION UPON ISRAEL’S LEADERS (34:1-31)

A. Leaders are unworthy shepherds: fed upon the people instead of properly feeding them (v. 1-10).

B. God will redeem His sheep from.  the mouths of the leaders and be their shepherd (v. 11-31).

     1. Shepherd: David – fulfilled in Christ (v. 23)

                 2. People will enjoy blessings of security and fruitfulness under a government of peace (v. 25-31).

III. EDOM” PERPETUAL ENEMY GLOATED OVER JUDAH’S DESTRUCTION

            AND SAW IT AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO POSSESS THE DESOLATE LAND –

            WOULD BE DESTROYED BY God (35:1-35)
