EZEKIEL:  LESSON NINE

FUTURE PURITY: THE TEMPLE AND THE COMMUNITY

Time: 572 B.C. (Chapters 40-48)

         I. FUTURE PURITY: THE TEMPLE AND THE COMMUNITY (Chapters 40-48)

A. The Temple (chapters 40-43)

1. Ezekiel’s vision: sees a man with a line of flax and measuring reed (40:3).

2. Measuring of the wall, the temple, parts of the temple and all the furniture.  

3. Purpose: to make a separation between that which is holy and that which is common (42:40).

B. The City of Community (chapters 44-48)

1. City is Holy – God has entered – gate shut (44:2, cf. 43:4-5).

    a. Test of circumcision (44:1-14)

    b. Only Zadokites priests (44:15-31)

2. Land set apart for Prince, Priests, and Levites (45:1-12)

3. Sacrifices and sacred days (45:13-46:24)

4. Healing river proceeds deeper and deeper from throne (47:1-12).

5. Land divided among people (47:13-48:35).

    a. Glory of city: “Jehovah is there” (v. 35).
