JOSHUA: LESSON FOUR


         I. ISRAEL’S SOUTHERN CONQUEST OF THE LAND OF CANAAN  (Chapter 10)

A. Five-king confederacy wars against Gibeon (v. 1-5).

     1. Headed by Adoni-zedek: King of Jerusalem

     2. Hoham – King of Hebron

     3. Piram – King of Jarmoth

     4. Japhia – King of Lachish

     5. Deber – King of Eglon   

B. God and Joshua help men of Gibeon against the king’s attack  (v. 6-15).

     1. Joshua and men travel overnight from Gilgal to Gibeon.

     2. Jehovah encourages Joshua to not fear.

     3. Enemy scattered – God kills more with hailstones than Israel does with the sword.

     4. Sun and moon stand still at Joshua’s command.

C. The five kings hide, and are trapped in a cave at Makkedah (v. 16-27).
